Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. It's a holiday where people get to show their creativity and where children are everywhere!
My little ones LOVE how we transform the house with spooky things.
Halloween morning Maddy had Nutcracker rehearsal but afterwards we carved pumpkins.
This year Christian decided rather then Trick-or-treathing he wanted to have his own booth at the Church's Harvest Carnival. My Dad always has one, so rather then signing up for 1 he got 2. Christian designed his game and found his bible verse.
The other chicklings did however dress up. Maddy and Kenna selected designs from a friend of mine who made the most fantastic tutu costumes.
Ethan wanted to be Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. He's been flying around the house for weeks in it!
So after we got dressed up and did hair and makeup we headed to the Church's Harvest to play games. Afterwards we trick-or-treated in our neighborhood ending up at Craig and Laurie's for a fire, tortilla soup and margaritas.
As usual with 4 kids getting candy we have a ridiculous amount of candy at home. Slowly Ryan and I will both take some to work so the kids won't notice and the dentist will thank us.
With 4 kids there is always something interesting going on.
Like on Monday when Christian came home with a long story of how he had lunch with a girl at her table with her friends.
Or on Tuesday how Maddy called me at working screaming that her Nutcracker letter came in the mail and that she got a part!
Or Wednesday when I walked up the stairs to find Ethan like this
Or how last night while I was making dinner Kenna rounded the corner into the family room like this
Yep NEVER a dull moment and I LOVE IT!
To some of you my title for this post might not make since, but to me it does.
We live 1 block, literally, from my brother so our kids are very close. This picture of my Niece and my little Makenna on Sunday.
We call Vanessa, Noodle and Makenna, Mack so therefore I thought it would only be appropriate to call this photo Noodle Mack. Aren't they sweet
Both Christian and Madyson thoroughly enjoyed their first day back to school. They came home with tales to tell about their classes, teachers and friends...
My parents came over for dinner, so after they left and I put the babies down to bed I sat down in-front of the enormous pile of "homework" for me from each school. If your a parent you know what I'm talking about. It's crazy how much stuff has to be read, completed, signed and returned with your child.
So I sift my way though each of the schools handbooks, sign classroom rules, read the lunch menus, sign the parent volunteer sheet and then stumble my way across the little white emergency release index cards. To my shock there both semi-completed by Ryan...(this is mind boggling because for the past 6 years of school for the kids he has NEVER completed nor signed any of this first day drama) I start with Christians and read what he filled out on the front side of the card and then completed a few blank spaces. Then I flipped it over and on the second line I see something that catches my eye and then I immediately know WHY he decided to "help".
It read:
Allergies: n/a
Medical conditions: anal glaucoma
I was shocked and appalled that he would write a joke on a form that I have to return to the school! Just then he walks down the stairs, sees me holding the little card and starts hysterically laughing to the point that rather than walking he's now stumbling down the remaining steps.
Christian then enters the room from a different direction. I hand him the card and ask him to review it to see if its correct since his father filled it out. He read the first side, flipped it over, read a few lines and then went white and started laughing so hard that it made him cry.
We started our vacation last Friday when we packed up the car, attached the trailer and headed to Malibu.
Upon our arrival we were mesmerized at how utterly breathtaking the Pacific ocean is from the top of our little cliff which we will call home for the next 10 days.
After unhooking the trailer from the suburban we took a short walk down to the water, where we climbed some rocks and searched for seashells. Christian was excited to find a perfectly shaped purple starfish lying on the sand.
There's a severe surf advisory so each night we've be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the harsh bearing sea crashing against the dense rocky cliff-side.
Yesterday we ventured down Pacific Coast Highway to Zuma beach we're we put up our umbrella, played in the sand and soaked in the California sunshine.
Last night we took a winding dirt trail down the hillside to the Beach Shack for the most delicious fried fish, shrimp, chowder and piping hot sourdough...
Is it bad when you can't figure out a single thing on your cell, so you hand it to the 11 year old to do?
Is it bad when you can't make the i-pod do sleep mode and your complaining so the 8 year old takes it and does it?
Yes these things happen in my house. But you know whats really bad?
When the 3 year old tell you to hold on because he's gotta text,
(Fyi, Nessa Noodle he said he was texting you!)
Friday we took the kids to Kids Pace (a hands on's kids museum at the Rose Bowl) and had such a good time! Heres our day in pics.....
Opps...somehow pics of Ethan got in there too. But look what a big boy he was!We spent all weekend moving. No not houses, but rooms. Little miss Makenna moved out of the nursery which she shared with Ethan and into the big girl room with Maddy. We took the bunk-beds from Christians room and put it into the girls room. We removed the 2nd toddler bed from Ethans room which made his room seem so spacious.
It took 16 hours to make the move, but I think we have 2 happy girls. Although on the flip side of that happiness, we have one sad and lonely baby boy. Ethan does not like his "Nenna" being in another room. Saturday night when I layed him down he started crying and managed to sob out that "you have daddy and sissy has Nenna and I don't have nobody".
So his big sister was to the rescue and gave him one of her "magic babies" to watch over him in his sleep. A few hours after he feel asleep I glanced in on him and he had a death grip on the baby, holding onto it for dear life!
While playing cards with the kids yesterday and getting our butts kicked by the little blond child, Ethan started teasing everyone. He announce that "Maddy is from UPS, Christian is from the Mailman, Kenna is from Mars and he's from Fedex."
Interesting concept thats been discussed many many times in our house. We all laughed and then he proceeds to make fun of Kenna and she started crying saying, "I AM NOT FROM MARS!!!" and then she ran upstairs and got her baby book, came back down and said, "See I am from Mommy!".
Then Christian said, "Well Mommys from Mars, so now what?"
