My girlfriend Michelle made a disc and some "cards" of last weekends beach trip. I love how she captured Makenna playing in the sand. Thanks Michelle!
Yesterday was a "girls" day. Maddy, Kenna Jean, my mom and I went to Hollywood to see Disney's Enchanted at the El Capitan Theater. The girls got dressed up in their matching Enchanted shirts, compliments of Nana and we headed to California Pizza Kitchen for their Macaroni at Maddy's request.
After lunch we settled down in the suburban for the two hour drive down to Hollywood. We only encountered a little bit of traffic along the way and arrived with 20 minutes to spare! We parked in the Kodak Theater parking lot and walked up to Hollywood Blvd, which was a zoo thanks to some Movie Awards Pre-Show event on the street! So we weaved through masses of people, camera's, even Elmo, Minnie Mouse and Sponge Bob.
Finally we made our way across the street. So much for the spare 20 minutes prior to show time! Whew, we made it to our seats literally as the lights were dimming.... The movie was good, it flipped around between animated and reality, which was kinda strange. About 45 minutes into it, Kenna whispered she needed to potty. So I took her and while doing her thing she says, "Ok, movies over, I wanna see Sponge Bob now." My reply, "No it's not over, there's more you have to wait!", her reply, "No, I'm done." (a little bribery works) I gave her a piece of gum and we went back to our seats happy campers!
After the show we went next door to an Enchanted extravaganza..... Every princess possible was there. The building was seperated into sections. A art section, dancing section, makeup section, dress boutique, jumpers and princess meet and greets.... Here is some shots of the proceeding 2 hours.
My favorite part of the day was when Makenna had her Princess dress on, she stood shooshing it back and forth, she must have felt so pretty! Thanks mom for a incrediable day with my girls!
Little Miss Makenna Jean never ceases to amaze me. This morning as I'm walking down the stairs to leave for work, I hear her in the kitchen talking to Miss Serena (our babysitter). Their conversation unfolded as follows:
MaKenna: "Miss Serena what color you eyes"?
Serena: "Green Kenna we talk about this all the time".
MaKenna: "Ohhhhhhhh, just wike (like) me"!
Serena: "Yep, thats right".
Makenna: "And Uncle Charwie (Charlie) has green too, just wike (like) us! But, not Aunt Howwy (Holly) hers brown just like poop"!
This is when I rounded the corner and see the expression on her face. Her eye brows were all crinkled up and her nose was creased. We all start laughing!
Makenna: "Hi, Mommy your eyes are Blue! Just like water"
Me: "Yep, Kenna and your silly", she giggles and then tells me what she liked and didn't like about my outfit this morning. Everyday my work attire is critiqed by a two year old and it's not always good.
To continue with last weeks tradition of writing about a kid per weekend, this weekend is all about our littlest baby Ethan...Before I go into our Ethan stories, I have to throw out there, that for being our little sickling in the beginning he's now a 100% healthy 19 month old! (He's sitting with us now at the computer. I'm Indian style in the chair typing and he's Indian style in my lap) Now...........
* Last night we set up his "big boy" bed. He immediately climbed in it and started jumping on it!
* Ethan is dubbed the "quiet child", he is very much a patient observer, always sitting quietly watching the other kids. Scares me because, he'll most likely be the mean wild child later.
* Ryan calls Ethan the "shadow". Wherever Makenna is Ethan is two steps behind...
* My favorite thing he says is "Nenna", (for Kenna) He walks around the house yelling "Neeennnnnnnnnaaaaa".
* Ethan has the worlds biggest smile! He's always smiling or laughing. If and when he thinks something is really funny, he'll cover his mouth with his hand and totally exaggerates it
* He's our little tattler. If someone has done something wrong, Ethan will stand to the side and point.
* Ethan loves to talk on the phone. He holds the phone (fake or real) with his cheek on his shoulder. When asked he always says he's talking to "mine nana".
* He has a special talent...Everyday when I come home from work I kick off my heels and Ethan grabs them and struts around the house. Walking successfully in my HIGH heels.
* Everything in Ethan's world is "MINE", if he sees it then it's his. Doesn't matter what it is, could be Kenna's cupee, but if you ask him its his.
Its Saturday morning, we just finished eating our cinnamon and sugar toast and coffee. This mornings meal was no different then any other in our Household, it contained a lot of talking and even more laughing. Ryan and I agree that mealtime is a favorite. It gives all of us a chance to hear about each-others days, tell stories, jokes, giggle, etc...
So, I snagged Ryan and now we're both sitting in front of the computer to start a weekly tradition. From now on once a week we'll sit down and share some of our favorite stories with our friends and family. This week we're starting with Miss Makenna Jean... She' the most sassy in the family and everything that comes out of her mouth is amusing so its only appropriate that we start with her! Here are some of our favorite things Makenna Jean says or does right now at age 2....
* Her name for Uncle Eric is "butthead", came up with it all on her own...only Makenna could get away with it
* Her favorite word is "ghetto" (don't ask)
* Everything is "whittle", like she's coming in a whittle while
* When and if she doesn't like something its "pouchy", yep poop in Spanish
* If she wants our attention, she calls us by first name, instead of Mommy or Daddy
* If shes serious about something she says, "wook at my eyebrows" and then wiggles them (shes got some serious Caterpillars going on)
* Every night at dinner we pray, Kenna always interrupts the person praying and says really loudly, "and thank-you for the broccoli, AMEN" (there is A LOT of blessed broccoli in the world)
* She loves to have her finger and toe nails painted, she calls the polish "farkles", she'll says, "wook at my farkles"
* If Ryan is irritating her, she stomps upstairs and goes to her room, yikes what will it be like when she's 16?
* She wakes up her baby brother on a daily basis, but chucking toys into his crib and saying "bug bug waaaake uuup!!)
* Anytime anyone in the goes goes to the bathroom, when they exit the bathroom she asked "did you get your potty cany?" (she thinks the potty candy is good at any age)
* When asked to spell her name she says, "M-A-KEY-E-N-N-A", I'll say no its "K", she'll say there's no "Key" in my name? which is always followed by the never-ending question.......WHY?
****Was just reminded of Makenna's bad habit of Chip dipping.....The kids loves her chips and special sauce...****
Last night we had a great surprise at our little house in suburbia...
To back up a little, 14 years ago I became friends with a girl named Liz. We spent a lot of time together hanging out and being silly. If Liz was in the room, then I was laughing. Her nickname for me was "whitegirl". Love it. Anyways, after high school we drifted apart and lost touch of each other until now.
We reconnected through the Internet and amazingly she's still fairly local. So we made plans for her to drive our way, meet up at the office and from there come over to the house. I didn't tell Ryan any of this, because I wanted to experience the shock value of her just randomly walking into the house after all these years. I'm so thankful I went that route, because when she walked into my office I was shocked! She looks so different! Years ago I would have summed her up with one word....Tomboy....But, now, the girl I saw yesterday was fantastically girlie! I would now sum her up with the word...beautiful...
Needless, to say when I came home I walked through the door and said that some girl followed me home and then she walked through the door and Ryan got this kinda silly, shocked look and after 3 or 4 seconds threw his arms around her and quickly bombarded her with questions, "Whats up Liz? Where'd you come from? What are you doing here? You look fantastic!, etc..." It was so cool to watch. So we spent the rest of the night talking, catching up and laughing a lot. We reminisced about the "old times" and filled each other in on the past decade. Time flew by and I was sad to see her go.
(Oh, I have to add. Kenna can't say the letter "L". So Liz's new nickname is "Wiz" thanks to Makenna.)
