Saying Maddy is my "mini me" is such a understatement.
Last night I was reminded just how much of a "mini me" she really is.
She wanted to get in on the betting action from a few weeks ago so during dinner she bet her father to see who could guess how many pairs of shoes she has.
They teased back and fourth and finally he decided to guess 15 pairs. Maddy (who had not counted them) guess 21 pairs.
After dinner she and I ran upstairs and I watched while she counted and counted and counted, emptying two overflowing drawers of shoes onto the floor.
The final verdict was 22. The child has 22 pairs of shoes. At that moment I realized not only to we look alike and have the same personality but we have the same LOVE of shoes!! CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Somehow tonights dinner conversation turned to being about me. I went from enjoying my grandmas homemade potato soup to listening to Ryan and Christian make bets about how many pairs of shoes I have.
The conversation started with Maddy when she asked, "Daddy whats H-24 mean?"
Ryan looked down at his shirt and said, "Hanger 24" and Maddy thought about his answer and said "Why because you have 24 hangers?"
"Yep thats right I have 24 hangers and your mom has the rest! She takes up almost the whole closet, especially her shoes!" Ryan said jokingly.
What?
Ryan said I bet your mother has 72 pairs of shoes.
Huh!!!?!!!! "Oh really wanna make a bet", I said exasperated!
Laughing Ryan replied, "As a matter of fact yes I do!"
So after dinner while Ryan did the dishes I ran up to my closet and started counting. and counting. and. well. counting..............
69. yep, I said it, 69 I have 69 pairs of shoes. Boots, flip-flops, sandles, heels, tennnies, wedges, slippers, Uggs...and I LOVE them all! But best of all? I won the bet!
Over the weekend Ryan and I sat down and went through several boxes of photos in search of pictures for a impending slide-show.
So as we were reminiscing I noticed that so many pictures are taken with the same people over and over again. The people whom we spend alot of time with. The people we are close to and enjoy being around. Certain family members and certain friends who we have created so many memories with. People we have started traditions with. People we are comfortable with.
Then I thought about the friends who we don't see anymore and the family members whom we just don't have a relationship with and the lack of pictures with them due to that lack of relationship. The older the kids get they too will pick up on the lack of pictures, of memories, with some people and it will hurt.
It's a unsolvable situation. I know some friends are just that. Friends their meant to pass in and out of your life because when you have things in common you have more to talk about, you have reasons to hang out, but family is different, the relationship should be consistant. There shouldn't be photos of birthdays and special occasions that don't consist of family.
I am thankful for the special relationships we have. I am thankful for all of the friends who feel like family. I am thankful for the family that feels like family. I am thankful for the relationships that are growing and I regret the relationships that are dwindling away.
But such is life I guess.
October 1st marks the start of my favorite time of the year! The weather is getting cooler, the leaves will be changing soon, today is the first day of Breast Caner month and from now until Christmas our weekends are pretty much full!
This month is a busy birthday month for our family, then Ryan and I both have our individual trips and Thanksgiving in November and and then all the festivities that the month of December brings!
From now till December 26th my house will be decorated and be filled with the smell of Cinnamon pine cones.
I think sometimes some people suck.
With 4 kids there is always something interesting going on.
Like on Monday when Christian came home with a long story of how he had lunch with a girl at her table with her friends.
Or on Tuesday how Maddy called me at working screaming that her Nutcracker letter came in the mail and that she got a part!
Or Wednesday when I walked up the stairs to find Ethan like this
Or how last night while I was making dinner Kenna rounded the corner into the family room like this
Yep NEVER a dull moment and I LOVE IT!
Every night I make the rounds to pray with each child before bed. The girls are always short and easy. We give each other loves and then we pray for each member of our family to have a good nights rest and for a good day the next day. Sometimes one of them will ask a question which leads to another question or comment but for the most part it's pretty routine.
Ethan on the other hand.....not so much....When I arrive in Ethan's room we always have to carefully arrange his bed with all of his bedtime friends, then he lays down and chooses which of his blankies he wants to cover up with. Then I give him a hug and a kiss and then he has to give me a hug and a kiss. Next we pray. His prayer goes something like this: "Dear Heavenly Father thank you for Daddy, Mommy, Bubba, Sissy, Kenna, Ms. Serena, Tiffany, the new baby, Jelly Cat, Baxter, Woody, Buzzlighter and Uncle Shane and Please God help us have a good nights sleep and a good day tomorrow."
Whew.....yep it's long and if someones forgotten we have to start back at the beginning. Such a sweet boy.
(Oh and to explain Baxter is his puppy and Jelly Cat is the elephant that watches him in the dark and keeps the monsters away.)
My parents are on vacation, so my brother and Roxanne are dog sitting for the 2 precious white fur balls that our parents call dogs. Actually these two rate a heck of a lot higher then us three children....
So Tuesday night Roxanne and her kids came over to hang out, along with my cousin Bree and her kids, and of course Roxanne had to bring the 2 pampered pooch's with her.
Things were going great, we had dinner and then were sitting around talking while all of a sudden there was a huge commotion which included fur flying, yelping and crying....What was it? Nope it had nothing to do with any of the 8 children in the house, but with those two charming fur-balls and 1 protective momma cat.
Apparently the dogs had managed to wander upstairs and entered into the unchartered territory of my bedroom which houses Olivia, our cat, and her 6 little kittens. Needless to say Olivia showed the dogs who was in charge and chased them down stairs meowing and clawing at them. She was so upset she looked like a enormous blow fish.
After we separated the 3 animals and they calmed down we managed to find humor in the fact that Mom and Dad would be distraught if they knew about Olivia's victory against the dogs.
So like any good child would do I called them relayed the story and my Mom promptly said put "the girls" (as she refers to them) on the phone. So I put the phone on speaker and held it down to the ground and listened to my Mom talk to the dogs and tell them "everything would be ok".....
Really Mom? I hate to be the one to break it to you but...........THEIR DOGS!
